Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re considering therapy, you may have a few practical questions before booking. I’ve answered some of the most common ones here.
If you don’t see your question, you’re welcome to reach out through the Contact page.

1
Do you offer a free consultation?
I don't offer free consultations. In my experience, the first full session, the Discovery Session, where we actually have time and space, is a much better way for both of us to get a real sense of the work. If you have a practical question before booking, you're welcome to reach out through the contact page.
2
What happens in the first Discovery Session?
The first Discovery Session is an opportunity to begin understanding what has been weighing on you and what you would like to feel differently in your life. This is a stand-alone session, 60 minutes in length, and costs the same as a normal session at $165. Enough time to see how therapy feels, and still leave with insight and tools you can use immediately.Â
Some clients come in with a clear concern. Others have a more general sense that something feels off, heavy, or difficult to manage on their own.
You do not need to have everything figured out before we begin.
3
How do I know if this is a good fit?
If you’re drawn to a thoughtful, grounded approach that focuses on understanding patterns, burnout, relationships, and life transitions, this work may feel like a good fit.
Many of the clients I work with are thoughtful, capable people who are used to carrying a great deal on their own and are looking for a space to slow down, reflect, and make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface.
You’re also welcome to read through the About, How I Work, and Areas of Support pages to get a fuller sense of my approach. If something here resonates, that's usually a good sign.
4
Are sessions in person or virtual?
All sessions are virtual, which means you can work with me from anywhere in Ontario, your home, your car, wherever you have privacy and a reliable connection. Many clients find the convenience actually makes it easier to show up consistently.
5
How long are sessions?
I offer:
• 60-minute sessions
• 90-minute sessions
• 2-hour intensive sessions
Most clients begin with a 60-minute Discovery Session. Longer sessions can be helpful when you would like more time to explore something in depth.
6
How often do people usually come to therapy?
Many clients begin with weekly or biweekly sessions. Some clients prefer less frequent Intensives due to time constraints and the ability to go more in-depth. The pace of therapy depends on your needs, preferences, and what feels manageable in your life. Over time, sessions may become less frequent.

Women come to me with all kinds of concerns, and rarely just one. Some of the most common themes I specialize in include:
• Burnout, Overwhelm, and Emotional Exhaustion - "I'm exhausted, and I don't know why."
• Relationship Patterns and Repeating Cycles - "Why do I keep doing the same things and ending up in the same situations?"
• Self-Abandonment, Identity and Boundaries - "Somewhere along the way, I lost myself."
Many clients come to therapy with concerns that overlap across more than one of these areas.
What kinds of issues do you help with?
8
Do I need to be in crisis to come to therapy?
No.
The clients I work with are not in immediate crisis.
My practice is focused on working with clients who are functioning in their day-to-day lives but are feeling overwhelmed, carrying a great deal of responsibility, noticing patterns they would like to understand and change, or feel they've lost themselves.
This is not a crisis service.
If you are experiencing immediate distress or require urgent support, please contact 911 or local emergency services.
9
Can I book just one session?
Yes. A Discovery Session is built for exactly this reason. This is an easy entry point for a stand-alone session to test the waters while also leaving with some clarity and direction. Others know they want to commit to a more regular rhythm from the start, or get a solid foundation through an intensive session.Â
There is no requirement to book a set number of sessions.
10
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
Currently, I offer some evening appointments but not weekends. Once you are a client, you can view current availability on the booking page, and we can negotiate which session structure works best for you.Â
11
Are your services covered by insurance?
Services may be covered by extended health benefit plans that reimburse Registered Social Workers.
Because plans vary, I recommend confirming your coverage directly with your provider. All my information is on my website, and my RSW number is provided with receipts after every session.Â
12
How does payment work?
Payment is due at the time of each session.
E-transfer only is available.
Receipts are provided after payment.
13
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule.
Life happens and I understand that. For cancellations with less than 24 hours notice, the full session fee applies. This policy allows me to offer that time to another client who may need it and it's included in the agreement you'll sign before we begin.
14
What if I'm not sure what to say?
That’s completely okay and very common. I'm here to help you put language to your experiences, so it's expected that you may show up feeling unclear.Â
You don't need to arrive with the perfect explanation or a neatly defined problem. Many clients begin therapy with a general sense that something feels heavy, overwhelming, or difficult to sort through alone.
That is enough to begin.
15
What if I have a question before booking?
If you have a practical question before scheduling, you’re welcome to reach out through the Contact page or the Start Here page on my website. You're also welcome to contact me through my email at insighttherapyandconsulting@outlook.com
16
What if I need urgent support?
This practice is not a crisis service.
If you are experiencing immediate distress, please call or text 911 or contact local emergency services.
17
Is online therapy as effective as in-person?
Research consistently shows that virtual therapy is as effective as in-person therapy for most concerns. I have been providing fully virtual services for many years and find that many clients actually find it easier to open up from the comfort of their own space. All you need is a private spot and a reliable internet connection.
18
What are Intensives?
Intensive therapy sessions are extended two-hour sessions designed for focused work on one specific pattern or issue. Instead of spreading the work across months or weekly appointments, we use a single dedicated block of time to go more in-depth and leave with real clarity. They're a strong fit for busy professionals who can't commit to weekly therapy and want meaningful, concentrated work. They're not a replacement for ongoing therapy where that's needed, just a different format for a different kind of need. For current clients, intensive sessions can be a helpful addition to regular sessions. For new clients, I will provide a brief intake, specific to the intensive session, to get context and see what your needs are, to make sure this is right for you before we schedule.Â
