Frequently Asked Questions
If you’re considering therapy, you may have a few practical questions before booking. I’ve answered some of the most common ones here.
If you don’t see your question, you’re welcome to reach out through the Contact page.
1
Do you offer a free consultation?
I don't offer free consultations. In my experience the first full session, where we actually have time and space, is a much better way for both of us to get a real sense of the work. If you have a practical question before booking, you're welcome to reach out through the contact page.
2
What happens in the first session?
The first session is an opportunity to begin understanding what has been weighing on you and what you would like to feel differently in your life.
Some clients come in with a clear concern. Others have a more general sense that something feels off, heavy, or difficult to manage on their own.
You do not need to have everything figured out before we begin.
3
How do I know if this is a good fit?
If you’re drawn to a thoughtful, grounded approach that focuses on understanding patterns, emotional load, relationships, and life transitions, this work may feel like a good fit.
Many of the clients I work with are thoughtful, capable people who are used to carrying a great deal on their own and are looking for a space to slow down, reflect, and make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface.
You’re also welcome to read through the About, How I Work, and Areas of Support pages to get a fuller sense of my approach. If something here resonates, that's usually a good sign.
4
Are sessions in person or virtual?
All sessions are virtual, which means you can work with me from anywhere in Ontario, your home, your car, wherever you have privacy and a reliable connection. Many clients find the convenience actually makes it easier to show up consistently.
5
How long are sessions?
I offer:
• 60 minute sessions
• 90 minute sessions
Most clients begin with 60 minute sessions. Longer sessions can be helpful when you would like more time to explore something in depth.
6
How often do people usually come to therapy?
Many clients begin with weekly or biweekly sessions.
The pace of therapy depends on your needs, preferences, and what feels manageable in your life. Over time, sessions may become less frequent.
7
"Women come to me with all kinds of concerns, and rarely just one. Some of the most common themes include:
• anxiety and overthinking
• perfectionism and internal pressure
• emotional responsibility and caregiving
• relationship patterns and boundaries
• life transitions and identity shifts
• self-worth and inner criticism
• grief, trauma, and cumulative emotional load
Many clients come to therapy with concerns that overlap across more than one of these areas.
What kinds of issues do you help with?
8
Do I need to be in crisis to come to therapy?
No.
Most of the clients I work with are not in immediate crisis.
My practice is focused on working with clients who are functioning in their day-to-day lives but are feeling overwhelmed, carrying a great deal of responsibility, or noticing patterns they would like to understand and change.
This is not a crisis service.
If you are experiencing immediate distress or require urgent support, please contact 911 or local emergency services.
9
Can I book just one session?
Yes.
Some clients begin with one session and then decide how they would like to proceed. Others know they want to commit to a more regular rhythm from the start.
There is no requirement to book a set number of sessions.
10
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
You can view current availability through the booking page.
Currently, I offer some evening appointments but not weekends.
11
Are your services covered by insurance?
Services may be covered by extended health benefit plans that reimburse Registered Social Workers.
Because plans vary, I recommend confirming your coverage directly with your provider.
Receipts are provided for reimbursement purposes.
12
How does payment work?
Payment is due at the time of each session.
E-transfer only is available.
Receipts are provided after payment.
13
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule.
Life happens and I understand that. For cancellations with less than 24 hours notice, the full session fee applies. This policy allows me to offer that time to another client who may need it and it's included in the agreement you'll sign before we begin.
14
What if I'm not sure what to say?
That’s completely okay.
You do not need to arrive with the perfect explanation or a neatly defined problem. Many clients begin therapy with a general sense that something feels heavy, overwhelming, or difficult to sort through alone.
That is enough to begin.
15
What if I have a question before booking?
If you have a practical question before scheduling, you’re welcome to reach out through the Contact page
16
What if I need urgent support?
This practice is not a crisis service.
If you are experiencing immediate distress, please call or text 911 or contact local emergency services.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?
Research consistently shows that virtual therapy is as effective as in-person therapy for most concerns. Many clients actually find it easier to open up from the comfort of their own space. All you need is a private spot and a reliable internet connection.
